Faculty of Horticulture, Biotechnology and Landscape Architecture offers two main study programs:

  1. General Horticulture
  2. Landscape Architecture.

At present we have 1926 students – 1252 studying General Horticulture and 674 – Landscape Architecture.

We offer the following types of studies: Undergraduate (1st step, engineer, orB.Sc.) lasting 3.5 year and graduate (2nd step, or M.Sc.) lasting 1.5 year and extramural undergraduate lasting 4.5 year and graduate lasting 1.5 year. With the beginning of academic year 2007/2008 new studying programs were introduced for the 1st year students according to the officially approved standards (www.bip.gov.pl).The detailed schedule of courses for all types and years of study is available at the Internet page of the Faculty (http://wobiak.sggw.pl/) before the beginning of each semester. Three different studying profiles are functioning at the 2nd step studies in Landscape Architecture: Landscape planning and design, Landscape construction and maintenance and Garden and landscape art whereas 8 such profiles are functioning at 2nd step studies in General Horticulture: Pests in the environment – proecological plant protection, Agroecology with the basic sustainable horticulture, Genetics, breeding and biotechnology of plants, Ornamental plants in the human environment, Vegetable and medicinal plants, Pomology, nurseries and storage of horticultural products, Plant materials of high biological activity and Management in horticultural production. The best students can take the possibility of spending one year or one semester or take some selected courses in other Universities in Poland in the frames of MostAR programme or to study abroad in the frames of Socrates/Mundus programme. It is also possible to take the individual study programme.

Studies for Ph.D. degree (3rd step) are offered as regular 4 year studies or for extramural students who have to pay the fee. At present we have 50 Ph.D.students including one foreigner. Some postgraduate continuation studies were also opened:

  1. Protection and revalorization of historical monuments and parks(manager dr. Anna Majdecka-Strzeżek);
  2. Environment protection (dr. Leonard Indeka);
  3. Floristic art and flower arrangement (dr. Ewa Skutnik;
  4. Garden design with the family house (dr. Beata Gawryszewska);
  5. Horticulture with the elements of integrated plant production for the graduates from non-horticultural studies (dr. Marek Gajewski);
  6. Nature compensation for the programme “Nature2000” (professor Jan Szyszko);
  7. Integrated production of vegetables,fruits and agricultural crops (professor Zbigniew Dąbrowski) and
  8. Production and use of ornamental plant nursery material (dr. Wiesław Szydło),
  9. Nature compensation for the programme Natura 2000 (professor Jan Szyszko).

Starting in October 2006 the students from the Deaf and Dumb Institute in Warsaw are doing some practical training in Glasshouse Experiment Centre.

Practical professional training for the students in Landscape Architecture is programmed for 8 weeks. Undergraduate (1st step) students including the extramural students can start their practical training after completing 3rd semester and they can continue the work in the time when they have no courses, including holidays according to the rules for practical training and to the local rules in the place where they do their training. The practical training should be completed at the end of 6th semester. The practical training is carried mostly in administration units of the voivodships and counties, in the city horticultural enterprises,in the city parks and gardens and in the firms working in the area of green space planning and construction. The practical training for the students in General Horticulture is designed as follows: 4 weeks practical training in the Departments or Sections of the Faculty after completing 2nd semester and 5 months of practical training during 6th semester; 3 months of these 5 have to be conducted in the WULS experiment farms, while 2 other months can be conducted in approved horticultural farms in Poland or abroad. Faculty of Horticulture, Biotechnology and Landscape Architecture has been co-operating since several years with horticultural farms in Germany, England and Norway. The participation in EU Leonardo da Vinci programme may also be recognized as a part of practical training. Extramural students conduct their professional practical training after completing 6th semester in private horticultural farms (approved by the Deputy Dean for Students) or in the experiment units of the Faculty.
